Our friend Vic generously offered to share small vertical from his cellar on the show, and we were happy to take him up on it. He brought the 2005, 2006, and 2007 bottles of Lange Winery’s Freedom Hill Pinot Noir. This is always a high quality bottling from a respected winery and vineyard. These three vintages always make for an excellent vertical due to the significant weather differences. We’re also excited to share some thoughts from another local collector who’s had many more years of experience with Oregon Pinot Noir.
Why haven’t you tasted these wines yet?

We meet up with Beau again for this episode to pool some Port and Port style wine samples we’ve received for the holiday season. We have some cool snacks to go with the wines, and a good range of styles to consider. We taste the Tera d’Oro Zinfandel Port, the Fonseca Bin #27 Porto, Taylor Fladgate‘s 2005 Late Bottled Vintage, and Taylor Fladgate’s 20 year Tawny.

We tasted the Poet’s Leap Riesling from Longshadow on an earlier episode, but neither of us have had much experience with their reds. Dan came across some half bottles recently, and we both thought that they’d make for a fun show. We taste the 2006 Sequel Syrah and the 2005 Chester Kidder.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the videos from the Sunday Drinker Wine Review in the past, and we’ve been talking about doing a tribute episode before we even posted our first video. Chas finally convinced Dan to follow through and not take things so seriously. For this show, we taste the 2005 Lucian Albrecht Reserve Riesling, and the 2007 Willamette Valley Vineyards Barrel Select Pinot Noir.

We did Sauternes last year and we’re going to do it again this year. It’s delicious and great for special occasions and gatherings and we wanted to check out some new releases. We taste the 2006 Chateau Les Tuileries the 2007 Charmes de Rieussec the 2007 and the 2005 Chateau Suduiraut.
What was the wine or beer that really got you into exploring that beverage?

Dan received 2 wines from Wisconsin as a gift, and picked up 2 wines from Minnesota when he was back there last year. We’re excited about trying wines from new states. We always learn something new, and sometimes we find some surprising and fun wines. Today, we taste the Dry Riesling, and the 2005 Domaine Reserve from Wollersheim Winery in Wisconsin, as well as the Reding Reserve Frontenac and the LaCrescent from Fieldstone Vineyards in Minnesota.

For a Christmas episode, we decided to open a couple bottles of Sauternes. We found some in the $20 range, which is pretty good for this style of wine. We’re both big fans of Sauternes in general. If you’ve never tried it, we encourage you to check it out. If you are familiar with it already, you may want to check out these two for some good value. We taste the 2006 Chateau Roumieu Lacoste and the 2005 Castelnau de Suduiraut.
