Episode 141: 2011 Summer Wines From Brooks
July 28, 2012
We went tasting in the Willamette Valley after recording episode 140 and found a couple of wines from Brooks that we wanted to share with you. Both of them are drinking very well right now, and they’re perfect summer wines. As a correction, both wines are listed on their website at $22, which is a little higher than what Dan says in the video. We taste the 2011 Brooks Pinot Noir Rose and the 2011 Brooks Bois Joli Riesling.

Brooks and Evesham Wood are two of our favorite Oregon wine producers. Chas and I independently picked up bottles they had done with fruit from the Temperance Hill vineyard, and wanted to do a show with them. At 100 acres, this vineyard is one of the bigger vineyards in the Eola-Amity AVA. Portions of the vineyard rise above 800 ft in elevation, making this site on the higher side of the vineyards in the valley. The farming is done organically, so both of these wines come from organic fruit.

Episode 56: Two Current Favorites From Oregon
September 17, 2010
For this episode, we decided to share a couple of our favorite local, current release bottles with you. We’ve got a lot of respect for the producers as well as the individual wines, and it’s important to us to share some enthusiastic recommendations as well as on the spot reviews. If you’re at all curious, they’re both well worth checking out.

3 more Oregon Rieslings hit the table for todays show, thanks to some spontaneous picks from Chas. Dan is always happy to drink some Riesling, and these were some enjoyable bottles. We taste the 2007 Elk Cove Vineyards Estate Riesling, the 2008 Brooks Sweet P Riesling, and the Firesteed 2007 Oregon Riesling.

Episode 17: The Search For The Great American Riesling 2
December 5, 2009
We continue on the hunt for a truly exceptional American riesling. There must be some out there! We also decided to taste them blind so that the “reserve” bottling didn’t benefit from the name. While some were quite good, the search continues. We tasted the 2008 Arcane Cellars Willamette Valley riesling, the 2007 Brooks WV riesling, the 2006 Brooks Ara WV riesling, and the 2008 Siltstone Hyland Vineyard riesling. Congratulations to our “50 viewers” prize winner!

Episode 11: The Search For The Great American Riesling 1
October 18, 2009
Dan’s mentioned before that he’s on the hunt for American riesling that can stand up to German wines. Today we explored two that we’ve heard good things about, and compared them to a common entry level German Wine. Oregon wins!!!! (But Dan’s still looking for more, and will keep searching.)
