DePonte Cellars and Elk Cove Vineyards are among our earliest favorites from Oregon. We’ve enjoyed these 2010 bottles at tastings, and we wanted to share them on the show. We taste the 2010 Elk Cove Vineyards Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and the 2010 DePonte Cellars Lonesome Rock Ranch Pinot Noir. 2010 continues to impress, and we look forward to enjoying more wines from this vintage.
Do you like the 2010 vintage? If you do, what are some of your favorites?
Episode 83: Blind Riesling From Around The World
April 17, 2011
Chas picked up 4 bottles of Riesling from around the world and wanted to taste them blind both for interesting reviews and to see if our palates have learned anything over the past couple of years. As it turns out we both got a couple right and a couple wrong but it was still an interesting tasting experience. In this show we tasted the 2009 Elk Cove Vineyards Estate Riesling the 2010 Kung Fu Girl Washington Riesling the 2008 Penfolds Thomas Hyland Adelaide Riesling and the 2009 Escher Haus Pfalz Riesling.
What varieties would you like to see for future blind tasting shows?
Episode 67: The Search For The Great American Riesling 9
December 12, 2010
After few episodes away from it we’ve come back to American Riesling. I’ve tasted a couple that I enjoyed out in local tasting rooms and I came across a bottle that I’ve been meaning to try for a while now. While putting the label photos together I realized that I mis-read the Schöne Schlucht label and as a result we totally butcher another non-English name. -fail- I should be taking a German class this winter though so that will hopefully help in the future. For this show we taste the 2009 Schöne Schlucht mit Weingut Ackermann Willamette Valley Riesling the 2007 Silo Vino Riesling and the 2009 Elk Cove Vineyards Willamette Valley Late Harvest Riesling.
When is your busiest time at work?
3 more Oregon Rieslings hit the table for todays show, thanks to some spontaneous picks from Chas. Dan is always happy to drink some Riesling, and these were some enjoyable bottles. We taste the 2007 Elk Cove Vineyards Estate Riesling, the 2008 Brooks Sweet P Riesling, and the Firesteed 2007 Oregon Riesling.

What’s the weather like in your neighborhood?
Our friend David Speer from Red Slate sent out an enthusiastic email about the release of Evening Land’s 08 Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir. So, we invited him to join us on a show to taste it alongside 2 other solid Oregon Pinots. Red Slate puts on some great tasting events, and David’s been one of our favorite retailers for a few years. We taste the 2008 Evesham Wood La Grive Bleue Pinot Noir, the 2008 Evening Land Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir, and the 2004 Elk Cove Five Mountain Pinot Noir.

Episode 21: Blind Pinot Gris on New Year’s Eve
January 1, 2010
Happy New Year friends and fans! We’ve wanted to do a Pinot Gris episode for a while, so we decided to avoid the cliche’ bubbly tonight, and taste a less popular varietal instead. A favorite of ours was in the mix, and we were both nervous that our previous impressions wouldn’t hold up. But, that’s part of the reason for doing it blind. The truth comes out!
